Junior Software Engineer - Python/C++

Responsibilities

Peraton is seeking a highly skilled, innovative Junior Software Engineer to join the Joint Distribution Process Analysis Center (JDPAC). The role involves working at Scott Air Force Base, Illinois, with occasional telework.

As part of the Air Mobility Command (AMC) Analyses, Assessments, and Lessons Learned Directorate, you will collaborate with a team of military personnel, government employees, and contractors to develop and improve software applications that utilize discrete-event simulation, machine learning, and AI to support global air mobility operations.

Key responsibilities include:

• Enhancing modeling, simulation, and optimization tools for AMC through research and development.
• Collaborating with AMC's analysis teams to gather and document software requirements.
• Maintaining and improving in-house air mobility simulation applications using C++ and Python.
• Updating software to reflect changes in business rules.
• Developing utilities and reports to support simulation applications.
• Creating data processing pipelines with Python for simulations and analysis.
• Documenting software capabilities and code following industry standards.
• Identifying and resolving technology gaps in application programming.
• Estimating task timelines and communicating progress to the customer.
• Staying updated with software engineering trends and supporting their integration into AMC projects.

Qualifications

Basic Qualifications:

• Bachelor's degree in Computer Science, Software Engineering, or related field.
• 2+ years of experience in software development with BS/BA.
• Proficiency in object-oriented C++ and Python programming.
• Strong communication skills and ability to understand customer requirements.
• Ability to develop event-driven simulation models based on real-world operations.
• Adaptability to changing project needs.
• Work ethic and ability to work independently and in teams.
• Willingness to learn new programming skills.
• Availability to work onsite daily at Scott AFB.
• Excellent documentation skills.
• U.S. citizenship and active DoD Secret clearance.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Master's degree.
• Experience with discrete-event simulation software development.
• Experience with Python for data ETL processes.
