Job summary

Jobtailor in Maryland seeks an Architect to design, develop, and implement next-generation applications across geospatial and data-transformation domains. You will lead AI-assisted development, DevOps automation, and secure software practices while collaborating with stakeholders and vendors.

Qualifications

Bachelor's degree in computer science, software engineering, or related field.
3+ years of modern software development experience (Python/Java/PHP).
Experience in Agile environments.
US citizenship or permanent residency for clearance
Willingness to travel 50%+ as needed.
Geospatial, document-processing, and data transformation experience.
Experience with unit/integration testing frameworks.
Experience with AI-enabled development and LLMs.

Responsibilities

Architect, design, develop, and implement next-generation applications.
Use Infrastructure-as-Code and Configuration-as-Code tools including Terraform and Ansible.
Apply AI-assisted development techniques such as GenAI, LLMs, AI agents, and RAG.
Provide software expertise in integration, RESTful services, security, UX, and accessibility.
Investigate and repair defects across automation, front-end, and data layers.
Brief management, customers, team members, and vendors at a technical level.
Develop and maintain software for FAA TFDM program.
Perform other duties as assigned.

Job description

Architect, design, develop, and implement next-generation applications using software engineering best practices and current technologies
Use Infrastructure-as-Code and Configuration-as-Code tools including Terraform and Ansible
Apply Artificial Intelligence and AI-Assisted Development techniques, including Generative AI, LLMs, AI coding assistants, RAG, AI agents, prompt engineering, and AI MCP servers
Use DevOps and CI/CD tooling including Bamboo, Docker, SonarQube, and Ansible
Provide software expertise in application integration, RESTful services, Artificial Intelligence, security, workflow automation, module integration, UX, and accessibility compliance
Investigate and repair defects across automation, front-end, business logic, middleware, and database components
Brief management, customers, team members, and vendors at an appropriate technical level
Perform other duties as assigned
Develop and maintain software improving aircraft runway and terminal congestion for the FAA TFDM program

Requirements

Bachelor’s degree in computer science, software engineering, mathematics, engineering, or related technical discipline
Master’s or Doctorate degree may substitute for required experience
3+ years of combined experience with modern software development (Python, Java, PHP)
Experience working in Agile software development environments
Willingness to travel at least 50% as needed
Must hold US citizenship or Permanent Residency to obtain/maintain a Public Trust security clearance
Solid understanding of modern Python libraries and frameworks, including GeoPandas, Fiona, Pillow, PyTesseract, and XMLDiff
Experience developing geospatial, document-processing, and data transformation applications
Experience developing modern Python applications using object-oriented design principles, type annotations, asynchronous programming, automated testing frameworks, and secure software development best practices
Experience designing, developing, and maintaining applications for JSON, CSV, XML, XSD, and XSLT
Knowledge of XML schema design, XSLT transformations, and structured data validation
Experience with unit, integration, end-to-end, and behavior-driven testing using pytest, Behave, Selenium, Playwright, and test automation frameworks
Knowledge of HTML5, JavaScript/TypeScript, CSS3, and responsive UI development
Experience automating tasks with Bash, Shell, or Python
Experience using UNIX and Linux operating systems
Experience with Git/Bitbucket, Bamboo/Jenkins, SonarQube, and automated build/deployment pipelines
Experience with Artificial Intelligence and AI-Assisted Development, including Generative AI, LLMs, AI coding assistants, RAG, AI agents, prompt engineering, and AI MCP servers
Strong experience with Ansible Automation and authoring playbooks and roles
Experience building, packaging, and deploying applications in Linux using RPM-based distribution mechanisms
Experience deploying or supporting applications in AWS cloud environments; related certifications
Experience with PHP and Drupal
Experience with Atlassian tools including Jira, Confluence, Bitbucket, and Bamboo
Experience with relational databases including PostgreSQL, MySQL, and Oracle, SQL optimization, and ORM technologies such as Doctrine or Eloquent
FAA and air traffic domain knowledge
Willingness to travel to customer sites
