Job description

Solar Eclipse New York is looking for a highly detail-oriented Junior Product Development & Production Assistant to join our growing team in New York City.

This role works closely with our Product Development and Operations teams to help turn creative concepts into clear, accurate production instructions for our manufacturing partners in China.

A major part of this position is translating product briefs, artwork notes, packaging requirements, sample feedback, and production instructions from English into Chinese. We are looking for someone who can go beyond literal translation and communicate specifications clearly enough that factories understand exactly what needs to be produced.

This is an ideal role for someone who is highly organized, visually minded, extremely detail-oriented, and comfortable working between English and Chinese in a fast-moving product environment.

What You’ll Do

• Translate detailed product development briefs from English into Chinese
• Communicate product specifications, artwork instructions, measurements, materials, colors, finishes, packaging requirements, and construction details to factories
• Translate factory questions, comments, and production updates from Chinese into clear English for the internal team
• Review creative briefs carefully and identify missing or unclear information before they are sent to production
• Help turn design feedback into clear, actionable factory instructions
• Prepare and update sample revision notes
• Track product changes across multiple rounds of sampling
• Compare samples against approved artwork, briefs, measurements, colors, and specifications
• Flag discrepancies and communicate corrections clearly to factories
• Maintain organized records of product specifications, approvals, revisions, and production notes
• Help manage product development spreadsheets, SKU information, packaging specifications, and production timelines
• Work closely with designers to make sure creative intent is accurately communicated to manufacturers
• Assist with packaging development including labels, inserts, barcodes, boxes, and other packaging components
• Follow up with factories on outstanding questions, samples, revisions, and production details
• Help review production photos and pre-production samples before approval
• Support quality control by identifying inconsistencies in product, artwork, materials, construction, or packaging
• Assist with other product development and production projects as needed

This Role Requires Exceptional Attention to Detail

Our products often include hand-painted artwork, specialty materials, custom colors, detailed packaging, and small construction elements.

You may be responsible for communicating details such as:

• Artwork placement and scale
• Measurements and tolerances
• Material thickness
• Printing techniques
• Hardware finishes
• Logo positioning
• Small differences between approved artwork and factory samples

The ability to notice and communicate these details accurately is extremely important.

Who You Are

• Strong written communicator
• Highly organized and comfortable managing many small details at once
• Visually observant and good at identifying differences between artwork, specifications, and physical samples
• Comfortable working with spreadsheets, measurements, product specifications, and production documents
• Proactive about asking questions when something is unclear
• Able to follow projects through multiple rounds of revisions without losing track of previous changes
• Comfortable working in a fast-paced small-business environment
• Interested in product development, manufacturing, fashion accessories, home goods, or consumer products

Bonus, But Not Required

• Previous experience communicating with factories in China
• Experience in product development, production, sourcing, manufacturing, or quality control
• Familiarity with Adobe Illustrator or reviewing design files
• Experience with packaging development
• Experience with accessories, homeware, fashion, beauty, or gift products
• Familiarity with Pantone colors, materials, printing techniques, or manufacturing terminology

Fluent in written and spoken Mandarin Chinese and English

• Able to translate detailed technical and creative instructions accurately between English and Chinese
