Job summary

BlueScope Coated Products is seeking a Prime Coater Operator to manage the Prime Coater machine, assist as back-up to Finish Coaters, and support safe operation with quality and environmental compliance. Duties include setup, parameter measurement, and data entry into Oracle.

Will work closely with QC Lab and Production teams. Foundational experience includes tooling, safety protocols, and ability to work up to 12-hour shifts.

Qualifications

• High School diploma or equivalent (GED).
• One year of operating experience in a manufacturing environment.
• Knowledge of basic hand and power tools.

Responsibilities

• Perform checks including wet film checks, dry film measurements, gloss readings, and visual inspections.
• Continuously monitor wet film appearance to detect defects and adjust to prevent nonconforming material.
• Inspect incoming strip condition and surface quality to protect coating rolls and maximize yield.
• Identify coating defects including paint separations, blistering, flow lines, and edge skips.
• Monitor paint viscosity and make solvent additions as required to maintain target viscosity per lab guidelines.
• Coordinate with lab on paint adjustments and maintain filtration/circulation systems.
• Follow all safety protocols and chemical handling requirements.
• Communicate daily with Production and Quality Control to resolve problems and achieve company goals.
• Other duties as assigned.
