Salary range: $55,000-$70,700 annually. Hourly rate: $26.35-$33.87. See Specialist Series – Represented Fiscal Year.

Position Description

The Department of Radiology at the University of California, Irvine is accepting applications for Junior or Assistant Specialists. This is a one‑year appointment, non‑senate, renewable based on performance and funding availability. The position involves assisting faculty with research investigations in health services research, focusing on improving patient adherence, shared decision‑making, preferences, and health disparities, primarily in cancer patients but also other conditions. Incumbent will provide support for recruitment, participant engagement, maintain study database (RedCAP), create data reports, conduct literature reviews, assist with protocol development and IRB submission, help with presentations, reports, manuscript writing, and training and supervising student research assistants, and perform other tasks as needed. Collaboration with other departments and institutions is essential.

Basic Qualifications


  • Junior Specialist: baccalaureate degree in an applicable field or equivalent research experience.

  • Assistant Specialist: master’s degree or five years of equivalent specialized experience.


Preferred Qualifications


  • Experience with medical research and scientific writing.

  • Experience in health services research is desirable.

  • Collaborative team member with good interpersonal skills.

  • Strong analytical and organizational skills, detail‑oriented.

  • Ability to work independently and in a multidisciplinary team.

  • Experience contributing to manuscript preparation, IRB submission, and grant writing.

  • Priority to candidates with excellent written/spoken English, Spanish, Vietnamese, or Korean, given potential recruitment of non‑English‑speaking participants.
