Position overview

Salary range: The salary range for this position is $55,000-$194,800. The posted UC salary scales set the minimum pay determined by rank and step at appointment.

Position description

Specialist positions are occasionally available throughout the year in the Institute for Clinical and Translational Science at the University of California, Irvine. These are typically grant‑funded positions under the sponsorship of various faculty members. The ideal candidate should be self‑driven and motivated, with biomedical or translational research experience strongly preferred. Positions are dependent upon extramural funding. Rank will be determined based on qualifications and experience. Appointments are based on performance and availability of funding.

Junior Specialist rank – Baccalaureate degree (or equivalent degree) or equivalent research experience.

Assistant rank – MS or 5 years experience.

Associate rank – MS or 5-10 years experience.

Specialist rank – Terminal degree (PhD/MD) or 10+ years experience.

Qualifications

Basic qualifications (required at time of application)

  • Junior Specialist – Must possess a baccalaureate degree (or equivalent) or equivalent research experience.

  • Assistant Specialist – Must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent) or five years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization.

  • Associate Specialist – Must possess a master’s degree (or equivalent) or five to ten years of experience demonstrating expertise in the relevant specialization. Should have a record of academic accomplishments, including contributions to published or in‑press research and a record of university and/or public service.

  • Specialist – Must possess a terminal degree (or equivalent) or ten or more years of experience demonstrating expertise. Should have a significant record of academic accomplishments, including published or in‑press research, professional recognition, and a record of university and/or public service.
