Job summary

Tetra Tech is seeking a Junior Numerical Modeler to join our Ocean Science team. Work can be based in South Kingstown, RI or remotely within the continental United States.

The role focuses on environmental modeling of inland, coastal, and marine systems and collaboration with engineers, scientists, and software developers. The candidate will prepare data, develop and run numerical models, and communicate results to clients and project teams.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in oceanography, environmental science, civil/ocean engineering or related field; MS preferred.
• 2–5 years applying numerical models (contaminant/sediment transport, hydrodynamic, atmospheric) and understanding modeling principles.
• 2–5 years analyzing large datasets and applying quantitative methods to aquatic/coastal systems.
• Strong writing, speaking, and presentation skills; able to explain complex concepts clearly.
• Proficiency with MATLAB and Python scripting; familiarity with Microsoft Office.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and analyze environmental data for modeling.
• Develop and run contaminant/sediment transport models in aquatic environments using proprietary and public software.
• Evaluate model results and communicate environmental effects to clients and teams.
• Prepare technical reports, presentations, and project deliverables.
• Maintain data archives, modeling records, and documentation.
• Collaborate with modelers and software developers to improve tools, workflows, and processes.
