Job OverviewA law firm seeks a Junior/Mid-Level Intellectual Property Associate with a strong engineering background to join their Boston, MA office. The successful candidate will work on global patent portfolios, life cycle strategies, and provide innovative patent solutions for clients in the life sciences and tech industries.

Duties

• Draft patent applications.
• Prosecute patent applications in the US and direct worldwide prosecution.
• Conduct freedom‑to‑operate searches and analyses.
• Perform IP landscape analyses.
• Conduct IP due diligence for asset purchases or securities offerings.
• Conduct invalidity and non‑infringement analyses.
• Counsel clients on prosecution strategy.
• Monitor competitor patent applications and file observations.
• Assist with contested cases at the US Patent Office or in US district court.
• Assist with agreements for licenses and research collaborations.

Requirements

• 2-5 years of experience as a patent agent or associate.
• Prior firm experience and USPTO registration.
• Advanced degree in engineering (Ph.D. preferred; master’s with substantial experience considered).
• Excellent academic record and superior organizational and communication skills.
• Commitment to exceptional client service and a creative, entrepreneurial IP perspective.
• Experience in litigation and/or post‑grant proceedings is a plus.
