Job summary

Commonwealth Science and Technology is seeking a hands-on Maintenance Engineer to help maintain reliable plant operations by coordinating preventive maintenance and monitoring mechanical systems. You will collaborate with maintenance staff and external providers to resolve issues and support day-to-day facility needs.

In this role, you will investigate mechanical failures, identify root causes, and recommend improvements to minimize downtime while ensuring compliance with OSHA, EPA, and PSM

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical or Chemical Engineering is required.
• 2+ years of engineering or maintenance experience in an industrial manufacturing, chemical processing, or similar environment.
• Strong troubleshooting, problem-solving and technical evaluation skills.
• Strong communication and teamwork abilities to collaborate with maintenance and engineering personnel.

Responsibilities

• Coordinate preventive maintenance activities to ensure reliable plant operations.
• Work with maintenance staff and outside service providers to schedule repairs and support plant needs.
• Investigate mechanical failures, determine root causes, and recommend improvements to reduce downtime.
• Follow OSHA, EPA, and PSM safety requirements to maintain a compliant environment.
• Support equipment installations, system upgrades and capital project execution from planning through implementation.
• Maintain accurate equipment documentation, service histories and maintenance schedules in the CMMS.
• Ensure the reliability of process equipment and plant utilities such as pumps, reactors, boilers, chillers, and piping.
• Identify opportunities to improve maintenance practices and overall plant performance.
