Job summary

Burns & McDonnell is seeking an Assistant Mechanical Engineer in Kansas City, MO to support project teams from concept through design completion. You will assist in mechanical design, drawings review, and field data collection across power, process, healthcare and industrial facilities.

The role emphasizes collaboration, attention to detail, and analytical problem solving, with opportunities to develop FE/EIT credentials and hands-on CAD experience using AutoCAD and Revit.

Qualifications

• Bachelor degree in Mechanical Engineering or related degree from an accredited program.
• FE exam required or completed (Mechanical or related Engineering Technology) from an accredited program.
• ABET Accredited program strongly preferred.
• Prior internship and/or related consulting experience preferred.
• Basic knowledge in standard mechanical engineering techniques, principles and procedures.
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills.
• Ability to work methodically and analytically in a quantitative problem-solving environment and demonstrated critical thinking skills.
• Proficient computer skills (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite).
• Basic computer skills include AutoCAD, BIM (Revit), 3D rendering programs, hydraulic analysis, and HVAC analysis programs.
• Strong attention to detail, facilitation, team building, collaboration, organization and problem solving skills.
• Demonstrated leadership skills.
• Engineers in Training-EIT Certification preferred.
• Minimum of a 3.0 GPA strongly preferred.
• Involvement on campus or in the community preferred.
• Candidates must be legally authorized to work permanently in the country where this position is located.

Responsibilities

• Assists in mechanical design of projects from conceptual phase through design completion.
• Assists with reviewing production drawings for various facilities.
• Assists in designing mechanical components as required by project managers.
• Applies basic knowledge of mechanical engineering concepts, codes and procedures.
• Assists with research and data collection for projects.
• Assists with updating drawings in CAD-related software.
• Assists with client presentations, shop drawing review, and contract administration.
• Assists in performing field inspections, measurements or calculations.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
