Job summary

Thor Industries seeks a Senior Auxiliary Marine Engineer for a full-time on-site role at USCG Headquarters in Washington, D.C. Limited telework may be available.

The engineer will provide technical support and documentation for design, development and evaluation of marine vessels, including auxiliary systems, hydraulics, cargo handling, and weight handling calculations, with pay around $115k+ depending on qualifications.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Mechanical Engineering, Naval Architecture, Marine Engineering, or a related discipline.
  • Master’s degree preferred.
  • Minimum of six years of relevant experience including design optimization and integration of marine auxiliary and piping systems.
  • Experience with Navy, DoD, or U.S. Coast Guard shipbuilding programs preferred.
  • Familiarity with ABS, USN, and industry standards relating to shipboard auxiliary systems.
  • Ability to lead, work independently, and train junior engineers.
  • U.S. citizenship and eligibility for DoD Secret clearance.

  • Support Technical Interchange Meetings (TIMs) with shipyards.
  • Communicate and participate in Integrated Product Teams (IPTs) and working groups with other USCG and Navy entities.

  • Experience with Navy, DoD, or U.S. Coast Guard shipbuilding programs is preferred.
  • Experience with ACAT I or DHS Level I shipbuilding programs is preferred.
  • Familiarity with ABS, USN, and industry standards relating to shipboard auxiliary systems.
  • Familiarity with the USCG Standard Workstation and associated software products.
  • Ability to perform all functions independently, lead, and train junior engineers.

Travel

Approximately 0-10% travel anticipated.

Physical Requirements

Essential physical duties include typing, hearing, kneeling, sitting, standing, talking, vision, and walking.

Security Clearance & Citizenship

U.S. citizenship is required. This position requires eligibility for a DoD Secret security clearance; an active or interim Secret clearance is preferred.
