Job summary

SOCOTEC is seeking a hands-on Construction Materials Testing Lab Technician in Farmingdale, NY. You will handle, mix, and test concrete, soil, asphalt, and masonry samples daily, following standard methods to ensure accurate results.

The role requires physical work, the ability to lift up to 50 lbs, and good math and communication skills. Training is provided, and you can earn the ACI Concrete Lab Testing Certification within 6 months.

Qualifications

• Interest in working with construction materials in a laboratory environment.
• Full training provided; you are expected to earn ACI Concrete Lab Testing Certification within 6 months.
• Solid basic math skills.
• Physical ability to lift and move up to 50 lbs.

Responsibilities

• Hands-on with soils and construction materials — mixing, molding, curing and testing samples.
• Operate lab testing equipment (compression machines, sieves, molds, ovens, etc.).
• Lift, carry and move materials as part of daily testing routines.
• Record and report test results accurately following standards.
• Keep the lab running smoothly — cleaning, organizing and maintaining equipment.
• Calibrate and verify lab equipment to ensure testing accuracy.
• Provide field/construction materials testing support when needed.
• Perform other duties as assigned by supervisor.

Job Description Roll up your sleeves and get to work in our Construction Materials Testing Lab. This is a hands‑on, physically active role where you will be handling, mixing, breaking, and testing real construction materials like concrete, soil, asphalt, and masonry every day. If you enjoy working with your hands, solving practical problems, and seeing tangible results from your work, this is the job for you. Candidates will be responsible for performing laboratory tests related to Concrete, Soil, Asphalt, Masonry, and other construction materials in accordance with applicable testing standards/methods.

What You'\'ll Do

• Get hands‑on with soils and construction materials — mixing, molding, curing, and physically testing samples using standardized lab methods.
• Operate and work directly with lab testing equipment (compression machines, sieves, molds, ovens, and more).
• Lift, carry, and move materials and samples as part of daily testing routines.
• Record and report test results accurately, following ASTM and other industry standards.
• Keep the lab running smoothly — cleaning, organizing, and maintaining equipment and workspaces.
• Calibrate and verify lab equipment to ensure testing accuracy.
• Pitch in on field/construction materials testing support when needed.
• Perform all other duties as assigned by your supervisor or manager.

Qualifications

• A genuine interest in working with construction materials in a physical, lab-based environment.
• Willingness to learn technical testing skills; full training provided. You'\'ll be expected to earn your ACI Concrete Lab Testing Certification within 6 months.
• Solid basic math skills.
• Physical capability to lift and carry up to 50 lbs regularly.
• Strong communication skills, both written and oral, to log and report findings clearly.
