Huron Valley School district seeks a Junior Kindergarten Paraeducator to work under the classroom teacher, supporting identified students and recording activities per the curriculum.

The role, based in Milford Charter Township, Michigan, requires ESSA Highly Qualified status (Associate's Degree, 60 college hours, or ETS ParaPro score) and 10 hours per week with ASAP start. Reports to the Principal.

Qualifications

  • Must meet ESSA Program requirements for Highly Qualified.
  • Associate's Degree, 60 hours of college credit, OR successful score on the ETS Para Pro Assessment.
  • Previous experience working with young children and/or students who are academically at risk.

Responsibilities

  • Complement, supplement and reinforce students' instruction under the direction and supervision of the classroom teacher in both special education and regular education classrooms.
  • Understand the Junior Kindergarten program guidelines.
  • Understand and support Huron Valley's State & Federal Program objectives.
  • Work under the direction of the classroom teacher with identified children as required by the program curriculum.
  • Participate in regularly scheduled in-service sessions, both at the local and county level.
  • Attend staff meetings when requested.
  • On an as needed basis paraeducator employees may be required to attend to a student whose needs include routine medical procedures or assistance with regular hygiene.
  • Keep accurate records on activities with students as required by the program guidelines.
  • Perform any other duties as required by the program coordinator or classroom teacher.

The Junior Kindergarten Paraeducator works under the direction of the classroom teacher with identified children as required by the program curriculum. They keep accurate records on activities with students as required by the program guidelines.

QUALIFICATIONS
  • Good communication skills, both oral and written.
  • Must meet ESSA Program requirements for Highly Qualified.(i.e. at minimum, an Associate's Degree, 60 hours of college credit, OR successful score on the ETS ParaPro Assessment.
  • Previous experience working with young children and/or students who are academically at risk.
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with various staff members, principals, students, teachers and office personnel.
  • Ability to work well under direction of program coordinator and classroom teacher.
  • Show evidence of initiative andenthusiasm.
  • Ability to keep accurate records on activities with students as required by program guidelines.
  • May be required to take a skills test.

EDUCATION and/or EXPERIENCE

Associate's Degree, 60 hours of college credit, OR successful score on the ETS Para Pro Assessment.

LANGUAGE, MATHEMATICAL AND REASONING SKILLS

Ability to speak and write effectively. Ability to apply mathematical concepts to practical situations. Ability to carry out instructions furnished in written or oral format and deal with problems involving several concrete variables in standardized situations.
