Job summary

Parallel Works is recruiting a Junior HPC Systems Engineer to learn supercomputing operations on production systems. The role begins with monitoring, node health, and account work, then progresses to cluster builds.

The environment is hybrid: on-premises clusters, government cloud regions, and commercial GPU providers. A strong Linux base and interest in large-scale systems are essential; the position offers a path to senior roles.

Qualifications

• 2+ years of hands-on Linux administration across multiple distros.
• HPC fundamentals: batch scheduling, shared filesystems, MPI, compute node health.
• Bash and Python scripting for operational tasks.
• Networking basics: DNS, routing, SSH, firewalls, bastion access.
• Git with a ticket-driven workflow and clear written communication.

Responsibilities

• Monitor cluster health, node state, queue behavior, and alerts; act on node failures and job issues.
• Manage users, groups, Slurm accounts, and allocations across venues.
• Perform node lifecycle tasks: health checks, draining, and escalation.
• Extend Ansible playbooks and operational scripts; reduce manual steps.
• Patching and hardening under senior review; collect security evidence.
• Keep runbooks current and participate in on-call rotation after training.
