Responsibilities

  • Align coaching efforts within the program and coordinate a feeder system.
  • Set performance criteria and evaluate student abilities regularly.
  • Protect student-athletes, equipment, and facilities.
  • Coordinate scheduling of competitions with the athletic director.
  • Continuously evaluate and adjust the coaching program as needed.

Position Type: Extra Duty

Seasonal, Stipend $1,327 to be paid at the end of the season

The Wrestling Coach will work under the supervision of the Athletic Director. The Head Wrestling Coach must appreciate the need for the wrestling program to work with other sports as a complement to the entire Athletic Department. The Head Wrestling Coach is responsible for all aspects of the wrestling program. The coach must demonstrate strong leadership in player and staff development, sportsmanship, integrity and character development. Qualified candidates should possess strong communication and organizational skills.

Wrestling Coach Responsibilities:
  • Provide instruction and coach students to develop skills and the ability to excel in wrestling. Contribute to the educational program as a whole and to the growth of students involved in athletics so that they are successfully competitive.
  • Use a variety of instructional techniques and media to meet the needs and improve the abilities of student-athletes in wrestling.
  • Manage and supervise athletic activities, contests, and practice sessions to promote individual growth in athletic skills, teamwork, discipline, respect, and good sportsmanship.
  • Ensures that all wrestling coaches work together toward a common goal within the wrestling program and provide unity with a structured feeder system.
  • Establish performance criteria for competition and evaluate students' athletic abilities initially and on a regular basis.
  • Take all necessary precautions to protect student-athletes, equipment, materials, and facilities.
  • Work with the athletic director to schedule competitions and coordinate arrangements.
  • Develop and coordinate a continuing evaluation of coaching program, which includes but is not limited to making changes based on findings and the ongoing needs of the program.
Wrestling Coach Requirements:
  • Previous experience with wrestling.
  • The Head Wrestling coach must appreciate the need for the wrestling program to work with other sports as a complement to the entire Athletic Department.
  • Responsible for all aspects of the wrestling program.
  • Demonstrate strong leadership in player and staff development, sportsmanship, integrity and character development.
  • Qualified candidates should possess strong communication and organizational skills.
Other Duties
  • 1. Attends staff development meetings, clinics, and other professional activities to improve coaching performance.
  • 2. Performs any other related duties as assigned by the Principal and Athletic Director or other appropriate administrator.
Required Qualifications:
  • Must be 21 years of age, or older
  • High School Diploma or equivalent
  • Complete and submit an RE-1 Valley Schools online application along with 3 letters of reference
  • Willing and able to drive to away games, camps, scrimmages
  • Knowledgeable in the techniques and strategies for the sport/activity.
  • Ability to read & interpret documents such as safety rules, operating & maintenance instructions, and procedure manuals.
  • Ability to follow both oral and written directions & instructions from the athletic director.
  • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence.
  • Ability to effectively communicate, orally and in writing, with students, parents, staff and the community.
  • Ability to handle stressful situations.
  • Ability to maintain confidentiality of employment and student matters.
  • Ability to perform duties with an awareness of all district requirements and board policies.
  • Ability to effectively manage time and responsibilities.
  • Other qualifications as deemed necessary by the athletic director.
Preferred Qualifications:
  • At least 3 years of coaching experience.
  • Knowledge of all aspects of school sports activity programming.
  • Proven leadership qualities and successful experience in working with Junior High School students.
  • Background/experience in coaching wrestling
