Qualifications

• Valid Alabama teaching certificate preferred and ability to pass ALSDE background check.
• Meet AHSAA coaching eligibility requirements and district/ALSDE guidelines.
• CDL and bus driver certification may be required, pay may depend on obtainment.
• Previous coaching experience preferred.

Responsibilities

• Recruit players to stimulate positive student interest toward participation.
• Monitor and maintain facilities and equipment.
• Organize and conduct tryouts and physical conditioning program.
• Monitor physical examinations of players when applicable.
• Monitor the eligibility of student athletes.
• Maintain communication with faculty to support student development academically and athletically.
• Communicate with students/parents about academic deficiencies and improvement plans.
• Supervise student athletes and parents as assigned.
• Maintain positive public relations with the community.
• Participate in in-service training and injury prevention strategies.
• Supervise and train student athletes during activities.
• Attend CPR recertification, provide first aid with trainer support.
• Attend bus driver CDL recertification class.
• Demonstrate sportsmanship at all times.
• Perform other duties as assigned by principal and athletic director.

Junior High Head Basketball Coach - Possible Contract Position

QUALIFICATIONS:

1. Valid Alabama teaching certificate preferred. Applicant must be able to pass ALSDE background check.

2. Meet all AHSAA coaching eligibility requirements as well as all requirements as determined by the School District and ALSDE.

3. CDL and bus driver certification may be required. Pay may be dependent upon obtainment of a CDL.

4. Previous coaching experience preferred

KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES:

1. Knowledge of coaching techniques and strategies of the sport.

2. Knowledge of rules and regulations of the sport.

3. Effective communication skills (oral and written).

4. Ability to establish good working relationships with students, coaches, Administrators, parents, and community.

PERFORMANCE RESPONSIBILITIES:

1. Recruits players to stimulate positive student interest toward participation.

2. Monitors and maintains facilities and equipment.

3. Organizes and conducts tryouts and physical conditioning program.

4. Monitors appropriate physical examinations of players when applicable.

5. Monitors the eligibility of student athletes.

6. Maintains communication with all faculty members to assist in the development of the student not only athletically but also academically.

7. Communicates to students and parents any deficiency and suggests ways to improve academics, holding students accountable for their performance in the classroom and athletic programs.

8. Supervises student athletes.

9. Communicates with parents of the student athletes for whom supervisory responsibilities are assigned.

10. Maintains positive public relations with the community.

11. Participates in in-service training activities to enhance skill and expertise in athletic specialties, athletic conditioning, and injury prevention strategies.

12. Supervision and training of student athletes at all times while involved in activities associated with athletic team participation.

13. Attend CPR recertification class.

14. Provides first aid and interacts with trainer to report injuries.

15. Attends bus driver CDL recertification class.

16. Demonstrates sportsmanship at all times.

17. Other duties as assigned by the principal and athletic director.

TERMS OF EMPLOYMENT:

Salary and benefits shall be paid consistent with the system's approved compensation plan. Length of the work year and hours of employment shall be those established by the system.

EVALUATION:

Annually with Principal and Athletic Director.
