Job summary

Midfield City Board of Education seeks an Athletic Coach (All Sports) for the 2026-2027 term. You will coach student athletes, emphasize discipline, teamwork, and sportsmanship, and ensure safety and proper conduct at all times.

You will plan practices, manage schedules, and coordinate with the athletic director to schedule contests and ensure eligibility and required paperwork are completed promptly.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college.
• Valid Alabama Professional Educators Certificate preferred.
• Coaching experience in urban or college systems with documented playing experience.
• Must meet background check and fingerprinting requirements.

Responsibilities

• Instructs skill sets and techniques for individual and team achievement.
• Plans practices and game setups; maintains safe environment.
• Develops training programs and schedules; travels with athletes to games.
• Maintains equipment, inventories, and submits required paperwork.
• Works with Athletic Director to schedule contests and manage eligibility.

Job Summary:

This position is responsible for coaching and providing direction to student athletes so that they might achieve a high level of skill as well as an appreciationfor discipline, sportsmanship and teamwork in volleyball.

Duties:

• Follows and maintains knowledge of all District policies and procedures.
• Instructs and demonstrates skill sets and techniques necessary for individual and team achievement in the sport.
• Enforces discipline policies and emphasizes sportsmanship and healthy lifestyles.
• Plans and set-up activities, practices and games.
• Maintains a safe environment and facilities for student athletes at all times.
• Develop appropriate training programs and practice schedules.
• Supervises students in locker rooms at home and away games and ensures appropriate behavior.
• Travels with student athletes on the team bus to and from games.
• Ensures that proper cleaning, storage and maintenance of all athletic equipment and uniforms; update inventories are adhered to.
• Arranges transportation for athletic participants.
• Makes recommendations regarding the purchase of uniforms, equipment and supplies.
• Works closely with the athletic director in scheduling intramural and interscholastic contests.
• Maintains necessary records and completes required paperwork in a timely manner.
• Ensures that all student athletes are eligible, insured and have paid fees.
• Ensures that appropriate rules and regulations regarding the conduct of athletic activities and athletes are followed.
• Ensures that medical and safety requirements are adhered to.
• Interacts thoughtfully and courteously with students, staff, parents and officials and resolves conflicts in a professional manner.
• Appropriately maintains and secures confidential records and inquiries.
• Professionally represents the school and the District in interactions with parents, community, staff and students.
• Maintains appropriate certifications and training hours as required.
• Attends work regularly and is punctual.

Qualifications:

• A Bachelor’s Degree or higher from an accredited college or university.
• A valid Alabama Professional Educators Certificate preferred.
• Preferably, the applicant must either currently serve as a full-time academic teacher or obtain a full-time academic teacher position with the Midfield City School System.
• Possess a valid American Red Cross Standard First Aid & CPR certification.
• Successful coaching experience preferably in an urban school system or college system and should be able to document this experience along with proof of college or professional playing experience the sport(s) to be coached.
• Head Coaches must have the ability to evaluate the performance of assistant coaches and determine their effectiveness.
• Employment in the school system preferred.
• Ability to meet the suitability criteria for employment and/or certification/licensure under the Alabama Child Protection Act of 1999 and Act No. 2002-457.
• Knowledge of the Board’s athletics policies and procedures, school rules, and state and/or regional athletic association rules.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships with students, parents, and peers.
• Demonstrated proficiency in oral and written communication skills.
• Effective interpersonal skills, with an emphasis on communication and collaboration with a wide variety of people and groups.
• Knowledge of coaching principles and knowledge of the assigned sport.
• Ability to use technology to communicate, manage data, and produce/submit required reports, correspondence, and/or financial information.
• Ability to be punctual and in regular attendance.
• Capable of working with young men and women, willing to put in long hours for the development of a successful athletic and physical education.
• All non-faculty coaches must complete the course or courses required by the Alabama High School Athletic Association (AHSAA). All non-faculty coaches must be fingerprinted and must undergo a background check at their own expense prior to participation in coaching.

Evaluation:

Performance of the job will be evaluated in accordance with provisions of the Board policy on evaluation of personnel.

Salary Range:

Salary is based on Board approved salary schedule based on rank, certification and
experience. (Actual salary will be determined upon verification of experience.)
