Job summary

Solomon Middle School is seeking a dedicated coach to lead the Junior High Boys Basketball program for the upcoming season. The ideal candidate will foster a positive environment, develop players’ skills, and emphasize teamwork, discipline, and sportsmanship on and off the court.

The role requires strong basketball knowledge, excellent communication, and the ability to motivate student-athletes during practices and competitive games, including evenings and weekends.

Qualifications

• Coaching experience at junior high or high school level preferred.
• Strong knowledge of basketball fundamentals, strategies, and rules.
• Excellent communication, leadership, and interpersonal skills.
• Ability to motivate and inspire young athletes to reach potential.
• Commitment to physical and emotional well‑being of student‑athletes.
• Availability for practices and games including evenings and weekends.
• First Aid and CPR certification preferred but not required.
• Background check required prior to employment.
• High school diploma or equivalent; degree in PE or sports management or related field is a plus.

Responsibilities

• Develop and implement practice plans that enhance players’ skills, teamwork, and game strategies.
• Organize and lead daily practices, ensuring a safe and productive environment for all participants.
• Coach the junior high boys basketball team during games and tournaments, providing guidance and support.
• Foster a positive team culture that emphasizes respect, teamwork, and personal growth.
• Communicate effectively with players, parents, and school administration regarding team activities, schedules, and expectations.
• Monitor and evaluate players’ progress throughout the season, providing constructive feedback and encouragement.
• Ensure compliance with all relevant safety and sports regulations.
• Promote sportsmanship and ethical behavior among players and coaching staff.
• Assist in the recruitment and development of assistant coaches and volunteers as needed.
• Collaborate with the athletic department to organize team events, including fundraising and community service activities.
