Job summary

The Cato Institute is seeking a Junior Graphic Designer to join the Design team in Washington, DC. This full-time, hybrid role focuses on high-volume digital design—social graphics, web assets, email graphics, and presentations—and print work such as brochures and event materials.

You will work within established brand systems, contribute original concepts, and collaborate with editors, marketing, and policy researchers. A year of experience and a strong portfolio are required.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in graphic design or related field.
• At least one year of graphic design experience within an organization.
• Portfolio showing typography, layout, hierarchy, and color for digital and print.
• Ability to work within an established brand system and follow art direction.
• Strong attention to detail and ability to manage several projects against deadlines.
• Clear, professional communication beyond the design team.

Responsibilities

• Design social media graphics across platforms and formats.
• Create web assets, headers, thumbnails, icons, and email graphics.
• Develop print materials: brochures, flyers, event signage.
• Collaborate with marketing, policy researchers, and designers; participate in reviews.
• Maintain brand systems and asset libraries; version control and file organization.
