Job summary

The Personnel Board of Jefferson County Alabama is seeking a Geographic Information Systems Technician I to support the Tax Assessor in Birmingham. The role involves creating, verifying, and editing GIS data for tax mapping, entering records, and assisting the public with GIS questions.

Under supervision, you will maintain GIS databases, generate reports, research property deeds, and support mapping services.

Qualifications

Experience with basic map reading and interpretation (Google Earth, maps, legend).
Proficiency with basic computer tasks (copy/paste, data entry).
Completion of GIS coursework (Drafting/Design, Cartography, CAD, Geography, GIS).

Responsibilities

Creates GIS maps from various sources using GIS editing software.
Maintains GIS database content by editing and updating data.
Researches GIS information by reviewing deeds and maps to ensure accuracy.
Assists stakeholders by drafting GIS-related correspondence and responding to inquiries.
Generates reports related to GIS activities and documents them accordingly.
Maintains the county voter database by designating voting districts.
Performs maintenance on GIS hardware and software; updates as needed.
Engages in professional development and awareness of GIS developments.
