The Personnel Board of Jefferson County Alabama is seeking a Geographic Information Systems Technician I to support the Tax Assessor in Birmingham. The role involves creating, verifying, and editing GIS data for tax mapping, entering records, and assisting the public with GIS questions.

JOB SUMMARY: Jefferson County is seeking a qualified Geographic Information Systems (GIS) Technician (I) to work in the Tax Assessor (Birmingham) department. GIS Technician (I) perform technical duties in the development and maintenance of creating, verifying, and editing a GIS database using specialized software for tax mapping and/or legal descriptions. GIS Technician (I) enter records into GIS databases. GIS Technicians will have a moderate amount of customer contact, providing information to and answering questions from the public. Their work is performed under the direction of a supervisor and is reviewed through use of production reports for accuracy, completeness, and adherence to policies and procedures. Although this job is typically performed in an indoor setting, there are times they need to travel to locations in order to verify the accuracy of mapping information.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS: Job involves physical exertion required for sustained periods of light physical activity such as walking or standing. May involve occasional light lifting of items or objects weighing up to 25 lbs.
WORK ENVIRONMENT: Work is conducted almost exclusively indoors in an office setting. Work involves use of standard office equipment, such as computer, phone, copier, etc. Job may require working with angry/irate customers or citizens. Job requires continuous education to maintain certification/licensure.
