Job summary

KBR's Landsat Cal/Val team is seeking a Junior Geometric Calibration Engineer to support the ECCOE project. You will help execute sensor geometric characterization and calibration for Landsat 1-9, developing tools and methods for data quality and accuracy.

Responsibilities include monitoring geometry, reporting data quality, and presenting results to program managers. This role requires US residency and a hybrid work setup with potential remote options in Sioux Falls, SD.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering or related field.
• Minimum 3+ years of progressive engineering experience.
• Knowledge of Landsat data and calibration concepts is a plus.

Title: Junior Geometric Calibration Engineer

KBR's Science and Space Division is seeking a Junior Geometric Calibration Engineer to support the USGS Earth Resources Observation and Science (EROS) Center's EROS Calibration/Validation Center of Excellence (ECCOE) project. The Junior Geometric Calibration Engineer for Landsat Calibration and Validation (Cal/Val) activities is responsible for executing the Sensor Geometric and Spatial Characterization and Calibration of the Landsat 1-9 satellites.

Core Responsibilities

• Ensure the geometry of Landsat data are continually and promptly monitored, measured, and calibrated
• Develop and verify tools and algorithms to assist in Landsat data and instrument calibrations
• Characterize the geometric performance of the Landsat instruments to ensure that all geometric requirements are being met
• Report on the quality of Landsat data as required
• Present Landsat geometry status at assigned meetings and regular updates for the Landsat Program Management
• Answer user services questions regarding Landsat data
• Process data for public relations requests that come from USGS Project Management
• Provide geometric data quality expertise to the Landsat Project anomaly resolution teams
• Develop and verify tools and algorithms and perform qualitative analysis that results in improved Landsat data products
• Write and publish white papers and journal articles as needed
• Present analysis results at professional conferences and workshops
• Participate in peer reviews
• Perform other duties as assigned by the Landsat Cal/Val Team Lead

Qualifications

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Engineering, System Characterization, Signal Processing, System Calibration, Photogrammetry, Geodesy, Mathematics, or Satellite Systems
• 3+ years of progressive experience in an engineering role

Desired Skills

• Experience in writing SQL queries
• Programming skills in Python, IDL, Matlab, and in C or C++
• Knowledge of spacecraft and spacecraft instrument dynamics and characteristics
• Knowledge of spacecraft and instrument requirements
• Knowledge of image/signal processing and statistical analysis fundamentals
• Knowledge of map projections
• Ability to develop image and signal processing techniques and tools
• Ability to communicate effectively orally and in writing
• Ability to think independently
• Ability to handle complex multitask environments
• Familiarity with configuration management principles and procedures
• Knowledge of geodesy, system calibration/characterization, satellite systems, and remote sensing
• Thorough understanding of view angle geometries and/or orbital geometry
• Knowledge of cloud data processing
• Preference will be given to anyone with experience in satellite ground systems, remote sensing data capture, processing, archive, distribution, and scientific applications

Work Location

This position supports a team anchored in Sioux Falls, SD , and is offered in a hybrid remote/onsite work environment. Fully remote work will be considered for the right candidate. Three years of continuous residency in the US for issuance of a Government Security credential is required.
