Qualifications

• Must have completed Mat-Su Borough Basic Firefighter course or equivalent training program.
• Vision and hearing thresholds meet required standards.
• IC-100, IC-200, IC-700 and IC-800 must be completed before responding to calls.
• Bloodborne Pathogens & Hazardous Materials courses completed before responding.
• Valid Alaska driver’s license; 19+ with driving experience and acceptable record.
• Must pass pre-employment background check, drug screen, physical exam, and respirator fit test; hepatitis B vaccination series and TB screening or signed declinations.

Responsibilities

• Pulls and advances attack hose lines.
• Conducts searches for victims in burning buildings.
• Performs ventilation, forcible entry, property conservation, and other tasks on fire/emergency scenes.
• Inspects and maintains PPE, fire apparatus and equipment.
• Maintains fire stations for cleanliness and readiness.
• When staffing EOC, performs functions as directed by the Event Commander.
