Matanuska-Susitna Borough is seeking a basic firefighter to join a crew under direct supervision, performing essential tasks at fire and emergency scenes across the Borough. Residency within the Fire Service Area is preferred.
Requirements include completion of the Mat-Su Borough Basic Firefighter course or equivalent, vision and hearing standards, ICS coursework, and health screenings; a valid Alaska license and 19+ years of age with driving experience are also required.
The employee occupying the position of this class is responsible for completing assigned tasks as a basic firefighter assigned to a crew under direct supervision at various emergency scenes.This is a non bargaining unit.
Residency within the Fire Service Area is preferred.

Successful completion of Mat-Su Borough Basic Firefighter course or equivalent training program from another fire service organization.
Vision Requirements: Ability to see and touch in order to effectively and safely operate equipment, drive Borough vehicles, and perform other essential job functions.
Hearing Requirements: thresholds no greater than 25 dB without hearing aids.
Incident Command System classes required before being cleared to respond to calls:ICS 100, 200, 700 and 800.
Blood Borne Pathogens & Hazardous Materials courses required before you can respond to a call.
Possession of a valid driver’s license issued by the State of Alaska for the type of vehicle or equipment operated. Must be at least 19 years of age with one (1) year of driving experience and an acceptable driving record.
Must be able to successfully pass a pre-employment background check, drug screen, physical exam, and respirator fit test in addition to an annual respirator fit test. Must complete the Hepatitis B vaccination series and complete Tuberculosis (TB) screening, or provide signed declinations, in accordance with applicable health and safety guidelines.
