Job summary

Mayfly Agri (Pty) Ltd is seeking a qualified agronomy professional to oversee citrus orchards and overall farm operations in New York. The role involves supervising staff, monitoring irrigation, fertilisation, and crop protection programs, and maintaining records.

The ideal candidate has a degree in agronomy or equivalent, hands-on attitude, and a proactive approach to seasonal planning, safety, and environmental standards.

Qualifications

• Must have a degree in Agronomy or an equivalent Agricultural qualification.
• Exposure to citrus production and leading general farm workers is advantageous.
• Very high levels of commitment, proactivity, and hands-on attitude.

Responsibilities

• Assisting with day-to-day management and supervision of citrus orchards and farm operations.
• Monitoring irrigation, fertilisation, pest and disease control programmes.
• Supervising farm labour and contractors, ensuring tasks are completed efficiently and to required standards.
• Assisting with pruning, planting, harvesting and general orchard maintenance.
• Monitoring crop development, yields and fruit quality.
• Maintaining accurate records of production, inputs, labour and equipment.
• Assisting with planning and implementing seasonal farming activities.
• Ensuring compliance with farm safety, quality and environmental standards.
• Assisting with machinery, equipment and infrastructure maintenance.
• Supporting the Farm Manager with budgeting, procurement and operational planning.

Education

Degree in Agronomy or equivalent Agricultural qualification
