Job summary

Five Star Electric, a Tutor Perini Company, is seeking an entry-level Electrical Estimator for our corporate office in Ozone Park, NY. The position supports senior estimators on cost estimates for commercial and public works projects in the NY metro area.

Ideal candidates have 0–2+ years in construction/estimating, strong math, and proficiency with Excel; familiarity with estimating software is a plus. Salary ranges from $50,000 to $75,000 with experience-based progression.

Qualifications

• High School Diploma or GED required; Bachelor's preferred in engineering or construction mgmt.
• 0–2+ years of experience in construction, electrical contracting or estimating.
• Basic understanding of electrical construction and materials a plus.
• Proficiency with MS Excel, Word, and Outlook; reading construction drawings.
• Strong attention to detail and willingness to learn.

Responsibilities

• Assist senior estimators in preparing cost estimates for projects across NY metro area.
• Assist with quantity takeoffs from drawings and specifications.
• Review electrical plans, bid documents, and contract specs.
• Help prepare labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor estimates.
• Solicit and track pricing from vendors and subcontractors.
• Assist in bid proposals; maintain bid logs and project docs.
• Support estimating team during bid reviews and handoffs.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel.
• Learn estimating software and company procedures; perform other duties as assigned.

Position Summary

We are seeking a motivated Entry-Level Electrical Estimator to join our estimating team. This role is ideal for an individual interested in building a career in electrical construction and estimating. The successful candidate will assist senior estimators in preparing cost estimates for commercial, transportation, infrastructure, and public works projects throughout the New York metropolitan area.

Job Description

• Assist with quantity takeoffs from drawings and specifications.
• Review electrical plans, bid documents, and contract specifications.
• Help prepare labor, material, equipment, and subcontractor cost estimates.
• Solicit and track pricing from vendors and subcontractors.
• Assist in the preparation and submission of bid proposals.
• Maintain bid logs, estimate files, and project documentation.
• Support the estimating team during bid reviews and project handoffs.
• Coordinate with project managers, engineers, and field personnel.
• Learn industry estimating software and company estimating procedures.
• Perform other duties as assigned in support of the estimating department.

Requirements

• High School Diploma or GED required. Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction Management or similar preferred.
• 0-2+ years of experience in construction, electrical contracting, estimating, or a related field preferred.
• Basic understanding of electrical construction and materials is a plus.
• Proficiency with Microsoft Excel, Word, and Outlook.
• Strong mathematical and organizational skills.
• Ability to read and interpret construction drawings and specifications is preferred.
• Excellent attention to detail and willingness to learn.
• Strong communication and teamwork skills.

Preferred Experience

• Experience working for an electrical contractor.
• Experience as an Electrician Helper, Apprentice Electrician, Administrative Assistant, or Project Coordinator in construction.
• Familiarity with Bluebeam, Accubid, ConEst, or similar estimating software.
• OSHA 10 certification is a plus.
