Placements24 is seeking a Junior Environmental Scientist to join our Upington team. You will conduct fieldwork, collect environmental data, and assist with impact assessments and EMS development.

The role involves close collaboration with senior scientists and field crews to deliver robust monitoring and reporting. Candidates should hold a bachelor’s or master’s in Environmental Science or related field, with GIS and data-analysis skills, and a willingness to travel within the Northern Cape

About the Role

Our client, a leading firm in environmental consulting and sustainable development, is seeking an enthusiastic Junior Environmental Scientist to join their dedicated team in Upington, Northern Cape . This is a fantastic opportunity for a recent graduate passionate about environmental conservation, sustainability, and impact assessment. You will be involved in a variety of projects, including environmental monitoring, baseline studies, impact assessments, and the development of mitigation strategies. The role requires full-time commitment to our Upington office to ensure close collaboration with senior scientists and field teams. You will play a vital role in helping clients achieve their sustainability goals and comply with environmental regulations.

Key Responsibilities

• Conduct environmental fieldwork, including data collection, sampling, and site assessments.
• Analyse environmental data related to air quality, water quality, soil, and biodiversity.
• Prepare environmental reports, including impact assessments, monitoring reports, and management plans.
• Assist in the development and implementation of environmental management systems (EMS).
• Conduct literature reviews and research on environmental best practices and regulations.
• Collaborate with senior scientists and engineers on project design and execution.
• Support client engagement and communication regarding environmental projects.
• Ensure compliance with national and international environmental standards and legislation.
• Contribute to proposal writing and business development efforts.

Requirements

• A Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Environmental Management, Ecology, Geography, or a related discipline.
• A strong understanding of environmental principles and sustainability concepts.
• Fieldwork experience, including data collection and sampling techniques.
• Proficiency in data analysis and interpretation, with experience in relevant software (e.g., GIS, statistical packages).
• Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to produce clear and concise reports.
• A methodical and detail-oriented approach to work.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a team, often in challenging field conditions.
• A valid driver's license and willingness to travel within the Northern Cape region.
• Must be legally eligible to work in South Africa and available for full-time office-based work in Upington .
