Placements24 is seeking an Environmental Scientist to support energy projects in Upington, SA. You will conduct EIAs, develop mitigation strategies, and monitor environmental performance across project lifecycles, ensuring compliance and sustainable practices.

Responsibilities include planning and implementing environmental management plans, monitoring key parameters, liaising with regulators, and preparing comprehensive reports for continuous improvement.

About the Role

Our client is seeking a dedicated Environmental Scientist to support their diverse energy projects in and around Upington. This role is vital for ensuring that all operations are conducted in compliance with environmental regulations and sustainable practices. You will be responsible for conducting environmental impact assessments, developing mitigation strategies, and monitoring environmental performance throughout project lifecycles. Key Responsibilities

• Conduct Environmental Impact Assessments (EIAs) for new energy projects, identifying potential ecological, social, and economic effects.
• Develop and implement environmental management plans, including mitigation and monitoring strategies.
• Monitor environmental parameters such as air and water quality, biodiversity, and noise levels at project sites.
• Ensure compliance with national and local environmental legislation, permits, and regulations.
• Liaise with regulatory agencies, stakeholders, and project teams to address environmental concerns and facilitate approvals.
• Prepare detailed environmental reports, audit findings, and recommendations for continuous improvement.

Requirements

• Bachelor's or Master's degree in Environmental Science, Ecology, or a related field.
• Minimum of 4 years of experience in environmental consulting or management, with specific experience in energy projects (e.g., solar, wind, power generation).
• Strong knowledge of environmental legislation and permitting processes in South Africa.
• Proficiency in environmental monitoring techniques and data analysis.
• Experience with Environmental Impact Assessment methodologies and reporting.
• Excellent communication, stakeholder engagement, and report-writing skills.
