Job summary

Onterris is seeking a Junior Environmental Scientist to join an emergency response team. You will conduct sampling and data collection to identify and mitigate pollutants affecting environment and health.

Travel and on-call duties are expected, with a compensation range of $38,500 to $44,600 depending on experience and location. Responsibilities include equipment maintenance, sample analysis, and data synthesis, supported by a strong emphasis on safety and regulatory compliance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in Biology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Toxicology or related science.
• 1–3 years of experience may substitute for a degree.
• Advanced computer skills on Windows platforms are required.
• Ability to learn software and manage administrative duties (timesheets/expense reports).
• Ability to work independently with minimal supervision and meet deadlines.
• Strong verbal and written communication in English; able to follow directions precisely.
• Ability to complete HAZWOPER training and obtain DISA/TWIC clearances.

Responsibilities

• Immediate availability for extended travel and emergency response at client’s request.
• Maintain, calibrate and mobilize equipment for emergency response.
• Gather and analyze samples from potential contamination sources.
• Perform monitoring and sampling activities per prescribed methods.
• Compile, review and summarize scientific data and literature.
• Complete 40-hour HAZWOPER training within first three weeks of hire.
• Possess DISA & TWIC clearances within 3 months of hire.
• Complete all designated safety requirements within first month of hire.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
