Job summary

Onterris is seeking a Junior Environmental Scientist to join an emergency response team, conducting environmental sampling and data collection. You will apply scientific methods to assess risks and ensure client expectations are met.

The role involves travel, on-call rotations, PPE use, and the possibility of extended shifts. A Bachelor's in a related science and 1–3 years of field experience are typical requirements.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Biology, Environmental Engineering, Environmental Health and Safety, Industrial Hygiene, Chemistry, Chemical Engineering, Toxicology or other related science.
• 1 to 3 years of experience in a related field may be substituted in lieu of a degree.
• Advanced computer skills in a Windows-based platform is a must.
• Ability to learn various software and comply with administrative duties (time sheets/expense reports).
• Ability to work independently and with minimal supervision.
• Ability to respond promptly to supervisor communications.
• Ability to establish and maintain effective relationships in a matrix structure.
• Excellent verbal and written communication in English.
• HAZWOPER certification is required.
• DISA and TWIC clearances required within 3 months.
• Completion of OSHA training requirements; respirator use as needed.
• Occasional overtime and weekend work.

Responsibilities

• Immediate availability for extended travel and emergency response at client’s request.
• Maintain, calibrate and mobilize equipment for emergency response.
• Gather and analyze samples from potential contamination sources.
• Perform monitoring and sampling activities per prescribed methods.
• Compile and review scientific data and literature; act on findings.
• Complete 40-hour HAZWOPER training within three weeks of hire date.
• Possess and maintain DISA and TWIC clearances within 3 months.
• Complete all designated safety requirements within first month of hire date.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
