Job summary

Fairwinds Technologies is recruiting an entry-level Digital Signal Processing Engineer to contribute to xG wireless systems and Mixed Signal product development. You will work with DSP/FPGA, RF, and software teams on algorithms for communications, sensing, and RF test, applying MATLAB, Python, or GNU Radio to model and evaluate performance.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in a technical field completed or expected before start date.
• Coursework, lab, internship, capstone, research, or personal projects in DSP, communications, controls, image processing, radar, or related analytical discipline.
• Working knowledge of core DSP concepts such as sampling, aliasing, discrete-time systems, convolution, digital filtering, Fourier transforms, spectra, noise, and SNR.
• Experience using MATLAB, Python, Simulink, GNU Radio, or similar environments.
• Basic programming ability and willingness to learn interfaces to move algorithms into practical systems.

Responsibilities

• Develop, simulate, analyze, and test DSP algorithms for communications, sensing, RF test, and signal-conditioning applications.
• Model signals, evaluate algorithm performance, visualize results, and automate analysis using MATLAB, Simulink, Python, or similar tools.
• Implement and validate filtering, modulation/demodulation, synchronization, channelization, resampling, spectral analysis, detection, and estimation.
• Analyze time-domain and frequency-domain data from simulations, lab instruments, radios, channel emulators, and prototype hardware.
• Collaborate with software and FPGA engineers to translate algorithms into embedded software or FPGA implementations.
• Develop repeatable test methods, reference models, test vectors, acceptance criteria, and automated data-processing workflows.
• Assist with system integration involving radios, modems, data converters, RF front ends, and embedded Linux platforms.
• Prepare clear technical documentation, test reports, plots, briefings, and configuration records.
• Participate in laboratory and field testing, demonstrations, design reviews, and multidisciplinary troubleshooting.
