Job summary

GAI Consultants Inc. is seeking an entry-level Drainage Engineer to join our Florida transportation team. You will work on drainage and stormwater design for roadway and municipal projects across the state, collaborating with seasoned engineers to develop credible deliverables.

The role targets recent grads or early-career engineers. You will gain mentorship, FDOT exposure, and hands-on design experience, supporting professional growth toward PE licensure in a collaborative setting.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
• EI certification or ability to obtain within 12 months of hire.
• 0–3 years of civil, drainage or transportation engineering experience.
• Basic understanding of hydrology, hydraulics, and stormwater management.
• Familiar with MicroStation, HEC-RAS, HY-8; ICPR preferred.
• Strong analytical, organizational, and communication skills.
• Able to work well in a collaborative team.

Responsibilities

• Assist drainage analyses and design for transportation and municipal projects.
• Support drainage reports, calculations, memos, plans and specs.
• Assist design of stormwater systems, culverts, and roadway drainage.
• Perform hydrologic and hydraulic calculations under supervision.
• Help develop permit applications and supporting docs.
• Coordinate with roadway engineers, environmental staff, and surveyors.
• Review project data, maps, surveys, and construction plans.
• Participate in site visits, investigations, and meetings as needed.
• Ensure work complies with FDOT standards and company QA.
• Progress toward Professional Engineer licensure.
