Job summary

GAI-Consultants in Florida seeks an experienced Drainage Engineer with an active Florida PE license to join the transportation and infrastructure team. You will lead drainage design for road, municipal, and land development projects, coordinating with FDOT and regulatory agencies to meet Florida standards.

The ideal candidate has 5+ years of drainage engineering experience, strong hydraulics/hydrology skills, and proficiency with ICPR/HEC-RAS/HY-8/GeoHECRAS/MicroStation.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering from an accredited university.
• Active Florida P.E. license or ability to obtain via reciprocity.
• 5+ years drainage engineering experience supporting transportation, municipal, or civil infrastructure projects.
• Strong knowledge of FDOT Drainage Manual, FDOT Design Manual, and Florida stormwater regulations.
• Experience with water management district permitting requirements and preparation of drainage reports and calculations.
• Proficiency with ICPR, HEC-RAS, HY-8, GeoHECRAS, and/or MicroStation.
• Excellent communication, organization, and problem‑solving skills; ability to manage multiple projects.

Responsibilities

• Lead and perform drainage engineering analyses and design for transportation, municipal, and land development projects.
• Prepare drainage reports, calculations, plans, specifications, and supporting documentation.
• Design stormwater management systems, culverts, retention/detention facilities, conveyance systems, and roadway drainage infrastructure.
• Conduct hydrologic and hydraulic modeling using industry-standard software.
• Coordinate with project managers, roadway engineers, environmental specialists, and regulatory agencies.
• Prepare permit applications and support agency coordination with FDOT, SJRWMD, and local municipalities.
• Provide technical guidance and mentoring to junior staff and participate in client meetings and business development.
