Job summary

Jobtailor in Long Beach, CA, is seeking an ambitious Industrial Designer to take hard-goods concepts from concept through production. You will translate consumer insights into tangible product ideas and craft mood boards, sketches, and 3D renderings.

Join a collaborative design team and help drive seasonal and long-term product direction with proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and KeyShot. A 1–2 year background in design and knowledge of manufacturing processes are preferred.

Qualifications

  • 1–2 years of relevant experience in industrial design or related field.
  • Degree in Industrial Design or related discipline preferred.
  • Foundational knowledge of materials, construction, manufacturing, and production processes.
  • Ability to translate consumer, market and trend research into design directions.
  • Experience presenting trend boards, sketches, concepts, prototypes and designs.
  • Strong understanding of the design process from research through prototyping and refinement.
  • Ability to collaborate across Design, Product Development, Merchandising, Marketing, Sourcing, and other teams.
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite and 3D modeling/rendering (KeyShot a plus).
  • Strong visual communication and time-management skills.

Responsibilities

  • Develop innovative, functional, and commercially relevant hard-goods products from concept through production.
  • Translate consumer insights, trends, brand direction, and business needs into product concepts.
  • Develop sketches, ideation, mood boards, trend boards, color/material stories, 2D artwork, and 3D visualizations.
  • Research consumer behavior, trends, competitors, materials, technologies, and product innovations.
  • Conduct competitive research and contribute insights to product direction.
  • Support product development from concept and prototype through sample review and final execution.
  • Create and refine 3D models and renderings communicating product form, materials, colors, and finishes.
  • Collaborate with cross-functional teams throughout the product-development process.
  • Develop and maintain product specifications, design documentation, and development materials.
  • Prepare and present trend boards, concept presentations, design directions, and product proposals.
  • Maintain organized design files, presentations, samples, prototypes, and project documentation.
  • Manage assigned projects and deliverables while balancing priorities and deadlines.

Job description

  • Collaborate with Product Development and external vendors/manufacturers to maintain design intent
  • Develop and maintain product specifications, design documentation, and development materials
  • Prepare and present trend boards, concept presentations, design directions, and product proposals
  • Use Adobe Creative Suite and 3D tools to create visual presentations and product concepts
  • Maintain organized design files, presentations, samples, prototypes, and project documentation
  • Partner with cross-functional teams throughout the product-development process
  • Manage assigned projects and deliverables while balancing priorities and deadlines
  • Support seasonal initiatives, special projects, and broader design-team needs
Requirements
  • 1–2 years of relevant experience in industrial design, product design, hard goods, sporting goods, or a related field; internships and relevant academic experience may be considered
  • Degree in Industrial Design, Product Design, or a related discipline, or equivalent practical experience preferred
  • Foundational knowledge of product design and development, including materials, construction, manufacturing, and production processes
  • Ability to conduct consumer, market, and trend research and translate findings into design directions
  • Experience developing and presenting trend boards, sketches, concepts, prototypes, samples, and design presentations
  • Strong understanding of the design process from research and ideation through prototyping and refinement
  • Ability to collaborate across Design, Product Development, Merchandising, Marketing, Sourcing, and other teams
  • Ability to manage multiple projects, prioritize workload, and meet deadlines
  • Proficiency in Adobe Creative Suite, particularly Illustrator, Photoshop, and InDesign
  • Proficiency with Microsoft Office, particularly Excel, Word, and PowerPoint
  • 3D modeling/rendering knowledge required; KeyShot experience is a plus
  • Strong visual communication skills
  • Product/design knowledge or experience with consumer products, hard goods, accessories, sporting goods, or related categories strongly preferred
  • Knowledge of and passion for swim preferred
