The City of Durham is seeking a Camp Counselor responsible for guiding campers aged 6-12 during summer activities. This role involves supervising daily camp operations, planning engaging activities, and ensuring a safe and enjoyable environment for all campers, including those with specialized needs. Ideal candidates will be energetic and have a passion for working with children.
General Statement of Duties/Distinguished Features of the Class
This position is responsible for the daily guidance of campers. Duties include assisting with leading group through daily activities, participating with campers, assisting with the supervision of camp at all times and planning activities for campers on occasions. A person in this position must be willing to work with individuals with a variety of specialized needs in a recreational setting. This position reports to the Day Camp Assistant Director.
Education/Qualifications Required
Experience working with children 6-12 years of age in a recreational setting preferred.
Potential candidate for this position will be 16-18 years old.
Knowledge of different types of arts/crafts and athletics is desired. Experience interacting with children with physical and/or intellectual disabilities is a plus.
Applicants should be energetic and expect to interact regularly with campers.
