Job Summary
The Junior Data Engineer will support Lights On (production support) operations for data platforms and pipelines.
This role is focused on incident investigation, break-fix activities, operational maintenance, routine data loads, and compliance/security support to ensure reliable day-to-day operation of data services.
The position requires strong analytical skills, attention to detail, and the ability to work effectively in a production support environment.
Key Responsibilities
- Triage and investigate data-related incidents, identify root causes, and assist senior engineers in implementing fixes.
- Support break-fix activities, production defect resolution, and ongoing system maintenance to ensure stable operations.
- Execute and validate routine data loads and inputs, ensuring accurate and timely processing.
- Assist with operational tasks related to user/access support as applicable to the service scope.
- Participate in system audits, testing activities, and security or vulnerability remediation tasks under guidance.
- Maintain runbooks, knowledge articles, and documentation for fixes and operational procedures.
- Provide clear handoffs across shifts and teams to ensure continuity of operations.
- Support special projects and mandates within the Lights On scope.
Required Qualifications- 3+ years of experience in data engineering, data operations, or ETL support roles (or strong internship/co-op equivalent).
- Ability to write and troubleshoot SQL queries for validation and investigation.
- Basic Python scripting skills for data checks and automation tasks.
- Familiarity with ETL concepts, batch processing, data quality checks, and troubleshooting failed jobs.
- Strong operational mindset with experience handling support queues, incidents, and defined processes.
- Strong problem-solving abilities and attention to detail.
- Good communication and collaboration skills.
Preferred Qualifications- Exposure to modern data platforms such as Databricks or Snowflake.
- Familiarity with orchestration tools used for data pipelines.
- Experience with ticketing/ITSM processes and production support best practices.
- Understanding of data governance concepts.
