Job summary

HTU is seeking a Cost Estimator to support the estimating team, project managers, and discipline leaders in forming accurate construction cost estimates. You will review conceptual drawings, specs, and project docs to assist with time, cost, material, and labor estimates.

You will also work with vendors and subcontractors on proposals, perform quantity takeoffs, and prepare cost documentation. The role requires strong communication and detail orientation for effective cost control.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in construction management or related discipline required.
  • Strong analytical and documentation skills are essential.
  • Attention to detail is a must for precise estimates.
  • Ability to communicate effectively with clients, vendors, contractors, subcontractors, engineers, architects, and internal teams.

Responsibilities

  • Support estimating team, construction managers, project managers, and discipline leaders in developing cost estimates.
  • Review drawings, specifications, and project documents to prepare time, cost, material, and labor estimates.
  • Support vendor and subcontractor estimate development, compare proposals, identify scope gaps, and assist with quantity takeoffs and cost documentation.
  • Prepare cost and expenditure reports and track actual costs against estimates.
  • Support cost monitoring procedures and evaluate cost-effective options for materials, labor, or purchased components.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction foremen to discuss and resolve issues.
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes to cost estimates.
  • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
  • Conduct special studies to develop standard hour and related cost data or cost reductions.
  • Review material and labor requirements to decide whether to produce or purchase components.

Your Role

Here’s what you will be doing:

  • Review conceptual drawings, specifications, and project documentation to assist in preparing time, cost, material, and labor estimates.
  • Support vendor and subcontractor estimate development, compare proposals, identify scope gaps or exclusions, and assist with quantity takeoffs and cost documentation.
  • Prepare cost and expenditure reports and track actual costs against estimates.
  • Support cost monitoring procedures and evaluate cost-effective options for materials, labor, or purchased components.
  • Consult with clients, vendors, personnel in other departments, or construction foremen to discuss and formulate estimates and resolve issues.
  • Confer with engineers, architects, owners, contractors, and subcontractors on changes and adjustments to cost estimates.
  • Set up cost monitoring and reporting systems and procedures.
