Job summary

Qualifications

  • Two-year technical or high school diploma required.
  • Bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering, or applied engineering preferred.
  • Some experience in construction or engineering through work, internships, or part-time work preferred.
  • Ability to read complex blueprints and visualize construction drawings.
  • Strong organizational and self-initiative skills.
  • Team player with high integrity and honesty.

Responsibilities

  • Coordinate bid document distribution to subcontractors with document control.
  • Prepare scope, alternates, and exclusions for proposals for review and submission to customers.
  • Perform take-offs for material and labor using company software.
  • Run software take-off reports for review by management.
  • Prepare a cost recap with vendor scope analysis for managers.
  • Coordinate project scope and schedule with vendors/subcontractors.
  • Collaborate with designers on budget pricing and scope for upcoming projects.
  • Provide feedback to vendors on pricing and scope to meet company needs.
  • Promote company capabilities to clients and subcontractor base.
  • Assist Project Managers during turnover to ensure smooth bid-to-construction transition.
  • Prepare change order pricing for design changes.
  • Maintain relationships with customers and vendors to strengthen cooperation.
  • Meet deadlines for multiple bids.
  • Adhere to safety and behavioral standards.
  • All other duties as assigned.

Job description

Job Summary:

The estimator will assess construction projects and production to determine the total cost, including time, material, labor and other monetary expenses.

Essential Job Functions:
  • Coordinate bid document distribution to potential subcontractors with document control dept.
  • Prepare scope, alternate & exclusions in proposals professionally for review and submission to customers.
  • Perform thorough and accurate material and labor take-off using company software.
  • Run software reports from takeoff for review by sales VP or president.
  • Prepare a completed recap of costs plus supporting vendor scope analysis for review by managers.
  • Coordination of project scope and schedule with vendors/subcontractors through phone calls & emails.
  • Work with designers to establish conceptual budget pricing and scope of work for upcoming projects, including collaborating on cost & schedule saving ideas.
  • Provide feedback to vendors on pricing & scope to allow them to best serve our company’s needs.
  • Promote company and capabilities to client and subcontractor base.
  • Work with Project Managers during project turn-over period to insure a smooth transition from bid to construction.
  • Work with Project Managers to prepare change request pricing for design changes.
  • Establish & maintain relationships with customers and vendors to strengthen cooperation.
  • Prioritize to meet deadlines of multiple bids.
  • Adherence to Behavioral and Conduct standards.
  • Adherence to Safety protocols.
  • All other duties as assigned.
Qualifications and Requirements:
  • Two year technical or high school diploma.
  • Some knowledge of computer skills, natural aptitude handling & analyzing numbers.
  • Four year bachelor’s degree in construction, engineering or applied engineering studies preferred
  • Some experience in the construction or engineering industry through work, possibly internships or part time prefered
  • Ability to read complex blueprints, and must be able to quickly understand and visualize construction drawings.
