Job summary

American Electric Power (AEP) is seeking a Jr Controls Technician to assist with skilled electrical and control system work, including analysis, testing and reporting of results. The role focuses on repairing defects in control systems and supporting engineering layouts and procedures.

Two-year electronics or related education plus the ability to read prints and operate under safety standards are required. The position involves documentation, data recording, and collaboration with team members

Qualifications

• Two year Associate degree in electronics or qualifying Engineering/Science, or high school diploma with two+ years of related military experience.
• Read and interpret simple prints, sketches and specifications.
• Must have knowledge to perform installation, inspection, adjustment and servicing of instruments and controls.
• Must possess a valid State driver’s license and pass required tests.
• A Mass testing review and safety guidelines familiarity may be helpful.

Responsibilities

• Assist in locating and repairing defects in control systems with electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic components.
• Assist in low/medium voltage circuit breaker checks and adjustments related to breakers and distribution systems.
• Assist in preventive maintenance on equipment such as batteries, motors, compressors, forklifts and heaters.
• Record data, perform tests, prepare graphs, sketches and curves; compile project data and reports.
• Assist in engineering layouts and data for procedures, specifications, contracts, and materials.
• Use the work management system to locate parts, create work orders and log work histories.
• Obtain permits to ensure equipment clearance and tagging before work.
• Assist in installing/removing grounds as directed.
• Perform other duties as assigned.
