Job summary

American Electric Power is seeking a Control Technician Jr. to support electrical and control systems work, including diagnostics, testing and documentation. This role involves assisting with inspections, repairs and layout work for equipment across multiple facilities.

The candidate will help with data reporting, test preparations, and ensuring safety and regulatory compliance. Travel up to 30% is required; the role is based at Amos Plant with other site assignments as schedule dictates.

Qualifications

• Two-year Associates degree in electronics or equivalent military/industrial training.
• Ability to read simple prints, sketches and specifications.
• Ability to work well with others and mentor others.
• Physically capable of performing tasks at various heights.

Responsibilities

• Assist in locating and repairing defects in control systems involving electrical, electronic, mechanical, pneumatic or hydraulic components using wiring, schematic, logic or control diagrams.
• Assist in low and medium voltage circuit breaker electrical/mechanical interlock checks, repairs and adjustments.
• Assist in preventive maintenance and repair on equipment such as batteries, motors, compressors, forklifts, electric heaters, etc.
• Make equipment checks, record data, perform tests and prepare reports, graphs and sketches.
• Assist in engineering layouts and data preparation for procedures, specifications, contracts, BOMs and requisitions.
• Use the work management system to locate parts, create work orders, and record histories.
• Request and accept permits to ensure equipment is cleared and tagged.
• Assist in installing and removing grounds as directed.
• Perform all other duties as assigned.
