Job summary

Millis Development & Construction in Houston, TX is seeking a Junior Construction Estimator to support the Senior Estimator and estimating department. You will help ensure bids, proposals, and cost estimates are completed accurately, on time, and in an organized manner.

Proficiency in Microsoft Office, especially Excel, is required, and the ability to learn construction management software. Team collaboration and strong attention to detail are essential.

Qualifications

• 6 months or more of estimating experience in commercial construction.
• Experience in project management or other construction roles is helpful but not required.
• Basic understanding of construction methods, materials, and terminology.
• Familiarity with hardscape and concrete is very helpful.
• Strong analytical and mathematical abilities.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Excel, Word, Outlook) is needed.
• Should have exposure to estimating software and digital takeoff tools.
• Must be able to manage multiple deadlines and have strong attention to detail.
• Good written and verbal communication skills along with organizational skills are needed.

Responsibilities

Summary

The Junior Estimator supports the Senior Estimator and the Estimating Department by helping ensure bids, proposals, and cost estimates are completed accurately, on time, and in an organized manner. The role requires a highly organized, skilled professional who can work in a fast-paced environment and handle a wide range of responsibilities. Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite, especially Excel, is required, along with the ability to learn construction management software. Must be willing to work effectively as part of a team is essential.

This new team member will work from our Houston, Texas office located at: 931 Pheasant Valley Dr, Missouri City, TX 77489.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities

Estimate Preparation

• Assist in creating detailed cost estimates for commercial construction projects, including labor, materials, equipment, and subcontractor costs.

Document Review

• Analyze blueprints, specifications, and bid documents to understand project scope and requirements.

Quantity Take-Offs

• Perform manual and digit take-offs for assigned trades using estimating software (Procore, Bluebeam, and Excel).

Bid Support

• Solicit and analyze subcontractor and supplier quotes; level and compare bids for scope coverage and accuracy.

Bid Package Development

• Help prepare bid packages, proposals, and cost reports.

Collaboration

• Participate in pre-bid meetings, site visits, and scope reviews; coordinate with project management during takeoff.
