Job summary

American Superconductor in MA is seeking a Junior Buyer to support day-to-day procurement activities, ensuring materials and services are available at the right cost and delivery terms. You will prepare purchase orders, communicate with suppliers, monitor delivery performance, and help maintain purchasing data in ERP systems.

Under supervision of senior staff, you will collaborate with Planning, Operations, Engineering, Quality, and Finance to support production needs.

Qualifications

• Associate degree in business, supply chain, operations, or equivalent.
• Bachelor’s degree in supply chain, business, engineering, or related field preferred.
• Up to two years in purchasing, materials, or related function; internships welcome.
• Experience in manufacturing/distribution or regulated environment preferred.
• Exposure to ERP or MRP systems and purchasing fundamentals preferred.
• Strong attention to detail, organization, and multi-tasking ability.
• Clear written and verbal communication with suppliers and cross-functional teams.
• Basic analytical and problem solving skills with quantities, pricing, dates, and spreadsheets.

Responsibilities

• Create, issue, and maintain purchase orders per requisitions and specs.
• Review PO acknowledgments and confirm pricing, quantities, and delivery dates.
• Monitor open orders and expedite or reschedule to support priorities.
• Request supplier quotations, prepare basic bid comparisons, support sourcing.
• Maintain supplier, item, lead-time, pricing, and delivery data in ERP.
• Coordinate with suppliers and internal teams to resolve shortages and issues.
• Track supplier performance and assist with reviews and corrective actions.
• Support inventory by reviewing demand, order quantities, lead times, and risks.
• Identify cost-saving and process-improvement opportunities; escalate as needed.
• Maintain organized purchasing records and follow quality, regulatory and company requirements.
• Perform additional procurement and supply-chain duties as assigned.
