Junior Automotive Mechanic

How much will I make?

No professional automotive repair experience is required. A Junior Automotive Mechanic can earn between $30,000 and $45,000 per year. This position is designed to train and prepare you to become an ASE-Certified Automotive Service Technician. What are the hours?

We work Monday – Friday from 7:45 AM to 5:30 PM with up to a 1-hour lunch break. We believe our employees' weekends should be free to spend with family and friends, which is why we are not open on weekends.

Work Expectations

The Junior Automotive Mechanic will learn to perform these duties and responsibilities:

• Identify mechanical problems visually or with computer diagnostic equipment.
• Perform tests on specific parts and systems to confirm proper mechanical function, ensuring all critical parts are examined.
• Perform routine and preventive maintenance, including oil changes and tune-ups.
• Repair or replace malfunctioning parts and systems, such as brake pads, belts, water pumps, transmissions, and other mechanical components.
• Conduct further tests, including test driving, to ensure repairs are completed correctly.
• Perform other related duties as assigned.

Preferred Skills and Abilities

• Must have a valid driver’s license and be insurable under our auto insurance policy.
• Basic knowledge of vehicle repair.
• Basic mechanical repair skills.
• Analytical and problem-solving skills.
• Ability to visually diagnose mechanical issues.
• Familiarity with computer diagnostic equipment and software.
• Ability to read service and repair manuals.
• Ability to perform repairs efficiently.
• Ability to read work orders.

Education and Experience

• High school diploma or equivalent required.
• ASE Certification A1 through A8 is preferred.
• 0 to 3 years of related experience is preferred.

Physical Requirements

• Ability to work safely in a noisy environment with odors present.
• Regularly lift up to 50 pounds and occasionally up to 100 pounds.
• Inspect vehicles to determine repairs needed.
• Good vision for inspecting repair work.
• Ability to bend, stretch, kneel, and squat for repairs and inspections.
