Job summary

StepStone Group in San Diego seeks a Junior Data Analyst to bridge the Data Engineering team and business units, serving as a data steward and junior partner for governance initiatives.

This 16-week temporary role (40 hours/week) offers a path to extension or full-time. You will help define master data entities, run quality checks, document data definitions, and support integration with Snowflake data models.

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in a related quantitative or qualitative field.
  • 0–2 years of experience or coursework in data analysis, data stewardship, or operations.
  • Foundational SQL skills and ability to perform basic data profiling.
  • Basic understanding of data modeling, data integration, or ETL/ELT concepts.
  • Interest in private markets and bridging business needs to technology.

Responsibilities

  • Support entity management initiatives by helping to define, model, and maintain master data entities across the firm.
  • Assist in gathering, cleaning, standardizing, and deduplicating data from internal and external systems to support the creation of trusted “golden records”.
  • Execute records matching and merging workflows based on established logic and conflict resolution rules.
  • Act as a junior business partner by collaborating with stakeholders to understand and document domain definitions, business rules, and data lineage.
  • Implement routine data quality checks and validations to identify anomalies and ensure the accuracy and consistency of firmwide data.
  • Help create and maintain clear documentation, data definitions, and governance rules for master data assets.
  • Assist the Data Engineering team in integrating master data processes with broader workflows and Snowflake data models.
  • Provide general support for other data initiatives, including ad-hoc analysis and data profiling.

Position Overview

The Junior Data Analyst will serve as a critical bridge between the Data Engineering team and various business departments across the firm. Acting as a 'data steward' and junior business partner, this role will liaise with a diverse range of stakeholders to bridge business knowledge gaps and support efforts to define, enforce, and maintain unified entity management and data governance strategies.

Our Junior Analyst role is a temporary position that will last for 16-weeks with the possibility to extend or move into a full-time position. This role requires the incumbent to be able to work 40 hours per week.

Essential Job Functions

Qualifications

  • Foundational SQL skills with the ability to perform basic data profiling and querying (experience with Snowflake is a plus).
  • Basic understanding of data modeling, data integration, or ETL/ELT concepts.
  • Strong interest in private markets, financial data, and bridging the gap between business needs and technology.
  • Analytical mindset with strong attention to detail.
  • Excellent communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively with both technical engineering teams and business stakeholders.
Other Knowledge, Skills & Abilities
  • Prior internship or coursework experience in data governance or data stewardship is a plus.
  • Familiarity with data quality monitoring concepts.
  • Exposure to financial or investment data domains.
  • Eagerness to learn MDM platforms, data engineering tools, and metadata management.

Salary: 30 / hour

The salary range is an estimate of pay for this position. Actual pay may vary depending on job-related factors that can include location, education, skill, and experience. The salary range does not include any benefits or other forms of possible compensation that may be available to employees.
