Job summary

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Kansas is seeking an Accountant I to perform a wide range of accounting tasks under general supervision, including general ledger, journal entries, and accounts payable/receivable, supporting month‑end close and GAAP compliance.

This entry‑level role requires a Bachelor's degree in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field, less than 1 year of experience, and proficiency in Excel and accounting software.

Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree or equivalent in Finance, Accounting, Economics, or related field.
• Less than 1 year of experience in financial accounting.
• Understanding of GAAP, managerial accounting, and financial reporting standards.
• Proficiency in accounting software and Microsoft Excel.

Responsibilities

• Compute, analyze, and record financial transactions in the general ledger.
• Prepare and review balance sheet reconciliations and resolve discrepancies.
• Develop and maintain spreadsheets to support general ledger balances and reporting.
• Review monthly financial statements for GAAP compliance and governmental reporting standards.
• Assist with month-end close processes and variance analysis.
• Investigate discrepancies and support audits with documentation.
