Job summary

BlueCross BlueShield of South Carolina (Palmetto GBA subsidiary) is seeking an entry-level accountant to perform journal entries, reconcile accounts, and support financial reporting. The role requires attention to detail and ability to work across daily, monthly, quarterly, and annual cycles in a 40-hour week at our Columbia, SC location.

Responsibilities include supporting general ledger processes, preparing financial reports, and assisting with special projects as assigned by management.

Qualifications

• Bachelor's in a job-related field with 24 semester hours in accounting. (21 hours if hired prior to Aug 1, 2008)
• Knowledge of fundamental accounting concepts, practices and procedures
• Good communication, organizational, customer service, and analytical skills
• Ability to work independently
• Ability to handle confidential or sensitive information with discretion
• Proficiency with Microsoft Office and data retrieval applications
• Strong MS Excel skills with ability to write queries using database software

Responsibilities

• Reconciles assigned accounts and initiates/ processes general ledger entries
• Prepare spreadsheets and ensure entries are recorded in the accounting system
• Assist with daily activity and monthly/quarterly/annual filings as required by regulators and internal requirements
• Prepare reports for financial analysis, forecasting, budgeting and trend analysis
• Maintain accurate general ledger accounts including reconciliations
• Assist with special projects and coordinate between areas as needed
