Job summary

The VIA Agency in Portland, ME seeks a Junior Accountant to manage day-to-day financial activity including AP, AR, journal entries, job costing, and month-end close. This hands-on role suits someone who loves numbers and understands how transactions connect to the bigger picture.

You'll work with the Finance and Operations teams, maintaining attention to detail, curiosity, ownership, and proactive problem solving as you help monitor financial performance for the agency and its clients.

Qualifications

• 1–2+ years accounting experience including AP/AR, journal entries, and month-end close.
• Basic understanding of job costing and GAAP.
• Strong Excel skills and comfort with financial data.
• Experience with an ERP or accounting system; Advantage Hosted a plus.

Responsibilities

• Process and maintain daily AP and AR transactions.
• Prepare journal entries and support the monthly close process.
• Assist with job costing, client billing, and financial reporting.
• Review expenses for accuracy and proper coding.
• Reconcile accounts and investigate discrepancies or unusual activity.
• Research financial issues and work with others to resolve them.
• Maintain accurate financial records and documentation.
• Support the Finance team with analysis, reporting, and special projects.
• Help identify opportunities to improve financial processes and efficiency.
