Job summary

O&G Industries, Inc. in Torrington, CT seeks a Junior Accountant to join our finance team. You will support day-to-day accounting, assist with month-end close, prepare journal entries and reconciliations, and help deliver accurate financial reporting.

This role requires an understanding of accrual accounting, the purchase and sales cycle, accounts payable/receivable, inventory, and COGS. Strong Excel skills and attention to detail are essential for success in a fast-paced environment.

Qualifications

• Associate’s degree in accounting, finance, business, or a related field required; bachelor’s degree preferred.
• 2+ years of bookkeeping, accounting, or general ledger experience.
• Strong understanding of double-entry bookkeeping, accrual accounting, and basic financial reporting concepts.
• Experience preparing journal entries, account reconciliations, schedules, and supporting month-end close.
• Proficiency in Microsoft Excel and ability to work with accounting systems.
• Experience with JD Edwards or QuickBooks is a plus.
• Strong attention to detail, accuracy, organization, and time management skills.
• Ability to research issues, solve problems, and meet deadlines in a fast-paced environment.
• Good written, verbal, and interpersonal communication skills.

Responsibilities

• Prepare and post journal entries with appropriate supporting documentation
• Assist with month-end close activities, including account reconciliations, schedules, and variance analysis
• Support preparation of financial statements and related reporting packages
• Maintain fixed asset records and prepare depreciation schedules
• Prepare and file monthly sales tax returns and related reports
• Assist with bookkeeping, general ledger maintenance, and financial support as needed
• Research variances, resolve accounting discrepancies, and support continuous process improvement
• Provide administrative and accounting support to the finance team as needed
