Job summary

Planet Group in Greater Lansing, MI is seeking a Junior Accountant for a contract position. The role involves maintaining the general ledger, posting monthly journal entries, and reviewing variances from forecasts. You will help manage the month-end close and assist with audits alongside the accounting team.

Ideal candidates have 1–3+ years of accounting experience, strong Excel skills, and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field. Experience with Sage ERP is a plus but not required.

Qualifications

• 1-3+ years progressive accounting experience.
• Proficient in Microsoft Excel.
• Bachelor's degree in Accounting or related field.
• Experience with Sage ERP is preferred but not required.

Responsibilities

• Maintain general ledger, input monthly journal entries, review variances from forecast.
• Coordinate and manage the month-end close process through financial statement prep and analysis.
• Ensure compliance with revenue recognition.
• Reconcile and analyze P&L and balance sheet accounts.
• Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual close process.
• Work with Director of Accounting to oversee annual audits.
• Perform monthly financial reviews of service areas for accuracy.
