Job summary

Planet Group in Greater Lansing, MI is seeking a Junior Accountant for a contract position. The role involves maintaining the general ledger, posting monthly journal entries, and reviewing variances from forecasts. You will help manage the month-end close and assist with audits alongside the accounting team.

Ideal candidates have 1–3+ years of accounting experience, strong Excel skills, and a Bachelor’s degree in Accounting or a related field. Experience with Sage ERP is a plus but not required.

Qualifications

Responsibilities

• Assist in monthly, quarterly, and annual close process.

• Perform monthly financial reviews of service areas for accuracy.

Must Haves:

• 1-3+ years progressive accounting experience
• Proficient in excel
• Good organization/attention to detail
• Degree in Finance/Accounting

Preferred:

• Sage ERP
• Acquisition integration experience plus

Responsibilities:

· Maintain general ledger, prepare and input monthly journal entries, review and explain variances from forecast.

· Coordinate and manage the month-end close process through financial statement preparation and analysis.

· Ensure compliance with revenue recognition.

· Reconciliation and analysis of various P&L and B/S accounts.

· Assist in the monthly, quarterly, and annual financial accounting close process.

· Work closely with the Director of Accounting to oversee the annual audits.

· Perform monthly financial reviews of certain service areas to ensure accuracy and completeness of financial results.

· Work with project managers to understand financials and assist with preparation of forecasts.

Required qualifications:

· Bachelor's degree in Accounting or similar major

· One to three years of accounting experience utilizing various accounting methodologies

· Successful candidate will be deadline oriented, organized, possess strong time-management skills and have strong attention to detail.

· Experience in the service or manufacturing industry preferred.

· Experience with Sage ERP system preferred, not required.

· Strong Microsoft Excel skills.
